What I am sharing with you this week is trying new ingredients from a subscription box called Hatchery! Alanna from Alanna & Company invited me to do a guest post on her blog this week which is about our experience at the Wine Stroll at Middleton Place here in Charleston, which is definitely one of our favorite things to do here! So I thought this would “pair” nicely with that post (See what I did there? :P)! I would love it if you went and checked my guest post after you read this one, its like your getting a bonus this week! And while you’re there I am sure you will end up loving her blog as much as I do! We have a lot in common!
Since my last post was a box for doggies, I thought I needed to share a box with my readers who maybe didn’t have pets, but was still something I enjoyed and would recommend. So Hatchery is a subscription box for trying new artisan unique ingredients you may not have ever tried, thought of, or used before. I love to cook, and try to expand my boundaries when it comes to new recipes or ingredients, so I thought this would be a lot of fun! When I cook, I almost never make the same recipe twice unless it was super delicious and has become a “favorite”, so to say the least I love trying new things! Hatchery sent me one of their boxes to try out and see how I liked it, and I loved it! It was well packaged, beautiful branding, and most importantly, filled with really neat ingredients I had never tried before. So this is what we cooked with our new unique ingredients, and if you want to give hatchery a try, please click here!
The first ingredient I was most interested in off the bat, was the Red Pepper Jam, it sounded different and the handy pamphlet said it paired well with cheese, so we had a cheese platter I picked up, and grabbed some crackers and gave that a try. It was so yummy! It gives a nice bite but without too much heat, and with cheese made it perfect, we enjoyed that one very much! We received two containers of the jam, I plan to use the other one on maybe sandwiches or a chicken glaze! YUM!
Next was the entree, we grabbed the Nomad Spice blend and decided to make burgers with it. We got our hamburger meat from Zaycon, and this was the first time we tried this meat from them too. We added in salt, pepper, shredded cheese, olive oil, along with the spice blend and Chris popped those on the grill. We topped them with avocado, and served it with a Spinach Goat Cheese Salad topped with bacon bits, toasted pecans, carrots, cucumber, and the Salad Dressing that also came in my Hatchery box!
Overall our meal was delicious! The spice blend was sooo perfect in the burger, it was juicy, and grilled perfectly thanks to my man! The salad dressing was also really good. Definitely a meal we both enjoyed on our new Screen Porch Bar which if you haven’t seen the details on yet, click here.
A couple nights later, I wanted to make my version of a Chicken Caprese, and utilized the Nomad spice blend again, and it turned out great! I seasoned our chicken breasts we also got from Zaycon, with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and the spice blend, and browned those on both sides in a hot iron skillet with oil. Then I placed 2 slices of fresh mozzarella and a slice of avocado onto each chicken, and covered until cheese was melted. I plated the chicken then topped with sun dried tomatoes, pepper, and fresh basil, and a balsamic glaze. I served it over a quinoa wild rice blend and a side of steamed broccoli.

What is your favorite recipe to cook? Mine has to be Hawaiian Loco Moco’s, its the ultimate Hawaiian comfort food, so easy to make, it should be a sin! I will share it with y’all one of these days!
I hope you enjoyed my post today, if you have ever tried Hatchery let me know your thoughts on it in the comments! If you would like to give it a try, click this banner!
